i keep a fragile lily on my windowsill.
i water it each day and watch it grow
into a less fragile lily.
i watched as the frail purple petals turned
to a deep plum. its stem grew thicker and
it stretched toward the sun. i think of
my fragile lily when i feel am feeling small.
maybe i too will grow to be just as strong as
the lily one day.
